Therapy in a different space

Walk and talk therapy takes traditional counselling outdoors,

moving side-by-side rather than face-to-face in a room.

Why choose Walk and Talk?

Walk and talk therapy takes our sessions outdoors, where we walk side-by-side at a gentle pace instead of sitting face-to-face in a traditional office. This change in environment can make it easier for you to talk and help you find a fresh perspective on the challenges you are facing.

  • Reduced Intensity: Walking side-by-side removes the pressure of constant eye contact, which many find less intimidating than a formal office setting.

  • Natural Grounding: Being in nature has been shown to lower cortisol (stress hormone) levels, reduce anxiety, and improve overall mood and sleep.

  • Bilateral Stimulation: The rhythmic movement of walking stimulates both sides of the brain, which can help soothe the nervous system and facilitate the processing of difficult emotions.

  • Symbolism of Progress: Physical movement can act as a powerful metaphor; as you physically move forward on the path, it can mirror your emotional progress in therapy.

  • Cognitive Boost: Movement and fresh air can enhance creative thinking and problem-solving, helping you move past feelings of being "stuck". And get you away from your screens!

What to expect

I'm often asked about  confidentiality outdoors. We look like any two people going for a walk and if anyone does get too close we can pause our conversation and we can select quieter routes or times of day.

This is not a fitness test! The pace is dictated by you and we can always stop to sit on a bench if needed.

If the weather isn't good we can move the session to my room in West Durrington, online or on the phone. Alternatively we can rearrange for another day. I am very flexible with how you want therapy.

Bring comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and footwear and a drink.

Fees

I charge the same fee of £50 for meeting you outdoors as in my room. I feel this is important so your decision is based on what is best for you, not what is cheaper or seemingly 'better'.
