About

Hi, I'm Louise

(She/her/hers)

I live in West Durrington on the outskirts of Worthing which I love as I can walk (or electric bike) up to Highdown, which arguably, has the best local views. I play Pickleball (Google it, it's a great game), love our garden and spend many hours in it, reading, planting, watching bees, thinking and daydreaming. I also do macramé and yoga, both very helpful to me.

I am an experienced counsellor and have worked with lots of clients all over the UK, lots of different ages, backgrounds and things they need help with. I have done many other jobs, travelled and met many different people over the years that I feel gives me a range of experience and insight.

I work very flexibly, which suits me well.

Some days I walk, sit in my room, Zoom and phone clients, some days are quite busy and others not. When I trained it was all about the room and sessions were 50 minutes, not a minute more or less, and you saw people on the hour, every hour. This is not how I work.

You can see me how you want, or indeed we can speak on the phone and you don't have to see me at all! I've found phone counselling can be quite liberating for some people; not being seen means you can paint your nails or do crochet (I am told)! I do have some people who like regular weekly sessions, but if you want to do a different day each week, or every other week, or change the time, or walk one week and phone the next, that is absolutely fine :) I am very much about doing what works for you.

So what will counselling with me be like?

I identify as a person-centred counsellor. It means that I believe in you. I believe we all have the capacity to grow and change and can learn to trust our own internal valuing system. I am not here to tell you what to do or to give you advice, but to view the world as you do, be empathic, with you, non-judgmental and believe in your capacity to heal yourself. I am not the expert on you, you are the expert on you.

I have done training and read around a number of different types of therapy and if I think there's something that you'd find useful I shall let you know. I do have a great interest in how our brains work and how our brains and central nervous system can take over control of our bodies, such as at times of trauma.

Counselling can be powerful, dynamic and challenging. It can make you look at your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a different way. It can help you understand that some of the views you have about yourself don't come from within you but have been absorbed from others, and perhaps aren't really that helpful. It can be life-changing, free-ing, surprising and healing. I am here to be with you through the experience.
